To support vital education projects in Malawi, through sponsorship of our 500-mile cycle ride from London to Glasgow!

 New stretch target

£3,000 can fund a project such as building 140 desks, support a literacy project or implementing a menstrual hygiene management project which helps girls avoid missing school when they get their periods. Therefore with £6,000 we could fund two such projects!

Children in Malawi must overcome many hurdles in order to complete their education. Only a third of children complete primary school*, average primary school class sizes are over 70** and there are shortages of basic equipment including desks and books.

Think Malawi is a volunteer-run UK charity (reg. no. 1141352), which works to remove these hurdles, by partnering with Malawian NGOs. The Malawian NGOs identify hurdles facing children in their education, and carry out projects to address them. These projects are funded by Think Malawi's supporters and overseen by Think Malawi.

In this way you can help children in Malawi to fulfil their potential in many ways, such as sanitary pad projects enabling girls to stay in school, constructing desks and innovating through remote learning projects.

Think Malawi's founder Steve McInerny, a keen cyclist, came up with the idea for the ride. "I fell in love with Malawi and its people when visiting there as part of a cycling expedition in 2005, so another cycling expedition seemed like a fitting way to raise some funds for education there!"

Steve is joined by a team of riders who are all equally keen and committed to this cause.

We are riding 500 miles from London to Glasgow over 6 days in August 2023 to raise funds for this vital cause. Please support us by making a donation. We are funding the costs of the ride ourselves and Think Malawi is run by volunteers, meaning that over 90% of funds raised will go direct to the projects in Malawi which we support.
