We're raising funds for the replacement of our obsolete floodlights with modern, energy efficient, LED units.
We are Pavenham Tennis Club and our courts and clubhouse are located on playing fields at Pavenham Village Hall in North Bedfordshire. Our club has existed for over 25 years, its formation due to volunteers who raised the funds and oversaw the construction of our 2 full-sized courts and 1 small, publicly available, taster court. Volunteers continue to run the club and since our formation have added floodlighting to the facilities offered. These are well used during periods of low light in the evenings and when days are shorter.

We’re funding to replace, with LED units, the floodlighting covering our courts. The current installation uses obsolete technology and replacement parts are becoming increasingly difficult to source. New components are hard to find and only second-hand parts, whose lifespan is uncertain, can be obtained. The installation currently has faults which need remedied to bring it up to full working order. We have also found that bulb replacement, which is more frequent than in an LED based system, is costly as it involves the need for additional equipment to provide safe working conditions at height. In addition, electricity consumption is of the order of double that of comparable LED based systems. If the club is to continue to support court use and player activity levels throughout the year then the need for reliable floodlighting is essential.
The funds raised will be used for the purchase and installation of the replacement floodlights and associated equipment. Any surplus raised will be split between upgrading existing facilities and supporting opening up access to the sport, particularly to younger players, through offsetting coaching and equipment costs.

Many of our players are mature or retired and encouraging engagement through activities such as walking tennis is opening up tennis to the less active, broadening participation. Junior coaching sessions inspire our youngest demographic, and girls in particular, to increase their involvement and love of tennis.
The provision of reliable floodlighting will allow the tennis club to continue to offer players the opportunity to play at all times, weather permitting. This will allow activity levels, particularly of more mature players, to be maintained, supporting health and mental wellbeing. It will also serve to encourage increased participation in the sport through the reliable availability of facilities throughout the year.

In order to ensure that we meet the Sport England Movement Fund award criteria we need at least 25 individuals to step forward and donate a total of at least 25% of the funds, to our Crowdfunder appeal.
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
