Aim: We're decarbonising a Sheffield dairy farm by adding solar, wind and anaerobic digestion to create green fuel for the farm and Sheffield
Who are we, and what is our project about?
Sheffield dairy farm and ice-cream producer Our Cow Molly is transforming to become fully-powered by green energy. The farm run by Eddie Andrew has BIG plans to introduce solar, wind and anaerobic digestion.
It's working with local social enterprise Ecofit CIC - which is project managing the transformation - and more just than creating green energy for the farm, the 'Our Sheffield Farm' project will eventually produce green energy in the form of hydrogen for businesses in Sheffield.
Farmer Eddie wants to bring the farm's community on the journey. The farm is beloved locally and has 1000s of visitors every weekend buying ice-cream. It's the last Sheffield farm to bottle and deliver milk, and supplies over 100 local businesses. In summer 2025 we're inviting everyone to be part of Our Cow Molly's green energy transformation.
By becoming net zero and involving its community in the project, the farm will become a local leader in climate action. The farm recently hosted a fantastic 'Open Farm' community open day on 8 June, running energy tours and showcasing clean energy products - including a hydrogen-powered JCB!
Why are we crowdfunding?
This funding will help us to develop one of South Yorkshire’s largest community owned energy projects. We have plans to install approximately 3MW of renewable energy at the farm and will raise a community share offer to pay for the capital costs.
However, before we get to that, we have substantial costs to cover, from conducting environmental surveys, obtaining planning permission, designing the system and managing procurement to putting all the necessary legal structures in place.
With your input, this crowdfunder will help us to cover some of those costs and help us to get this project up and running as quickly as possible.
How we’ll spend the money raised
To develop our ambitious project, we will need at least £200k. We have received support from the Net Zero Hub but have a funding gap for costs including:
Once we achieve our target of £100k, any additional money will be invested into buying equipment. This will be owned as a community asset, so any future profit will be invested into Sheffield.
How you can help
There are three simple ways to get involved and support our project:
1. Make a donation
Every pledge gets us closer to our goal. Early support can help build momentum and inspire others to give too.
2. Spread the word
Share our project with friends, family and your wider network. The more people we reach, the more likely we are to succeed.
3. Volunteer with us
If you’d like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch through the ‘Contact’ section using the subject "I want to volunteer my time or expertise" on our project page.
