Open Table Network creates safe, sacred spaces for LGBTQIA+ people, our families, friends and allies to belong in accepting, loving communities. Too many LGBTQIA+ people of faith are told, directly or indirectly, that they do not belong. Some have been rejected by churches, made to feel ashamed, or left isolated from both faith communities and LGBTQIA+ spaces. We exist so that no LGBTQIA+ person has to choose between faith and being fully themselves.

Our story:
Open Table began in Liverpool in 2008, when six LGBTQIA+ people gathered to worship safely as themselves. Since then, it has grown into a network of around 40 communities across England and Wales, supported by more than 300 volunteers.
Our communities are hosted by inclusive churches and shaped by people with lived experience. More than 85% of our leaders are LGBTQIA+.
We welcome people of all faiths and none, every gender identity and sexual orientation, and anyone who wants to belong in an accepting, loving community.
Although we are rooted in Christian community, our purpose is not to promote religion. Our purpose is to make sure LGBTQIA+ people know there is somewhere they can go where they will be genuinely welcomed, celebrated and not shamed.
Our impact:
New research in 2025 shows that Open Table continues to change lives.
The need is still urgent: more than 70% of members said that being visible as LGBTQIA+ is a barrier to belonging or serving in a mainstream church community. 80% of leaders agreed that this is a barrier for their members.
But Open Table makes a clear and lasting difference:
• 94% of members said being part of OTN has improved their wellbeing
• 85% of members said they feel less isolated
• members described Open Table as a non-judgemental space, an unapologetically queer space, and a place where I can be fully myself
As our network has grown to nearly 40 active communities, the research also shows that local leaders need more support to sustain this work.
Your donation helps us support the volunteers and leaders who create these safe, sacred spaces across England and Wales.

What donations make possible
Your donation helps us:
• support existing Open Table communities across England and Wales
• help new communities start in places where LGBTQIA+ people have little or no affirming faith support
• train church leaders and volunteers in LGBTQIA+ awareness, pastoral care, inclusive worship and safeguarding
• provide online resources, newsletters, blogs and podcasts so isolated people can find us
• respond to people and churches asking for help, hope and a way forward
We are a small charity with a growing national reach. Demand is increasing, and we never want to turn away someone looking for a safe space to belong.
Please give today, or become a regular monthly supporter.
A monthly gift helps us plan ahead, support local volunteers, and keep Open Table communities safe, sustainable and open to all who need them.
UK taxpayers can add Gift Aid, increasing the value of their donation at no extra cost.
