Your support makes a difference
To open a hub offering workshops, parent support and guidance and a place for children to have a safe place they can feel included.
When I had my son at age 19 I had no idea of what his needs would turn into, at age 7 he was diagnosed with Autism, ADHD and Global developmental delay. It took years of fighting with the local authority in order to even get that first step, a needs assessment, even when we did get that we had to fight again for the right placement. For myself and the family it caused many sleepless nights, tears and frustration but we saw it through and my son is now 21 years old and attends a specialist provision with PA support through social care around that too.
I have worked in many nurseries and schools across Crewe alongside children with Autism and ADHD, having personal experience with my son and professional experience working in settings. my husband has also recently been diagnosed with ADHD.
I decided to continue my career specialising with children with Neurodiversity and helping parents through the, often traumatic, experience of getting the right help for their child. I know how hard it can be and i really do want to help. I finish my degree in Early Childhood studies next year and have lots of other SEN related training, I am safeguard Level 3 trained and a trained family support worker.
I am wanting to set up a family hub that i can run with like-minded professionals, parents and friends to give that help and support to parents and carers, run workshops for children with SEN and have a place that they can come to and call their 'safe place' with no judgement.
The hub will be open every day, potentially with a cafe if i can find a building that will support this also and a sensory room or area that families can use. the workshops will take place in the evenings primarily as we are aiming at preschool/primary aged children. 4-11 years rather than adults.
We will have a range of activities in the hub and quiet areas along with lots of information for different services across Cheshire East and we will be there for help and advice during the day and one to one / face time meetings as and when required. We will also have some training/information sessions for parents to talk about different strategies to use and be able to share their experiences with other parents.
In order to rent a building to achieve this goal i need to raise some funds so i am looking for your help..
