We’re raising funds to keep our free youth drama group alive, inspiring confidence, creativity and community for 40+ local young people.
For more than 14 years, Acting Up Drama Project has been a vibrant and life‑changing creative project for children and young people in North Glasgow. Every week, over 40 young people aged 5–16 walk through our doors to build confidence, make friends, express themselves, and discover their voice through drama, performance, and behind‑the‑scenes theatre skills.
We are part of North United Communities Youth and Family Organisation, and our group has always been free, inclusive, and rooted in the heart of our community. Many of our young people have gone on to careers or further education in the art, but even more importantly, they have gained confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of belonging.
Acting Up is more than a drama group. It’s a safe space, a creative family, and for many young people, the highlight of their week. Over the years, we’ve staged community productions, run costume design and stagecraft workshops, explored lighting and sound, and given children the chance to shine on stage and behind the scenes. They take real pride and ownership of this group and it means the world to them.
But right now, we urgently need help.
Due to funding cuts, we are struggling to cover the costs to run the group including staffing, venue hire, snacks, and freelancers who help us deliver high‑quality creative sessions. Without support, we face the risk of shutting our doors, something none of us, especially the young people, want to imagine.
We are asking local businesses, organisations, families and community supporters to help us keep the project running while we work to secure longer‑term funding.
This crowdfund is our chance to keep Acting Up alive.
