Aim

To create Northumberland’s first haunted heritage museum, preserving local folklore, history and ghost stories for the community and future

Northumberland Haunted Museum is being created to protect something that’s quietly disappearing: our local folklore, ghost stories, and oral history.

Northumberland is one of the most historically rich and mysterious regions in the UK, yet many of its supernatural stories exist only in memories, whispered tales, and fading records. Once those stories are gone, they’re gone forever.

Who’s Behind the Museum

The museum is founded and led by a local paranormal researcher, storyteller, and community organiser with years of experience investigating, documenting, and sharing supernatural history.

The project is supported by:

  • Local historians
  • Community contributors
  • Volunteers passionate about heritage and storytelling

Northumberland Haunted Museum operates as a Community Interest Company (CIC), which means it exists for community benefit, not private profit.

Our Vision

Our vision is to create Northumberland’s first haunted heritage museum — a welcoming, ethical, and accessible space where people can explore the region’s folklore, history, and paranormal stories in a respectful and educational way.

Key principles of the museum:

  • Free access to general heritage and folklore displays
  • Low-cost guided experiences for deeper storytelling
  • Community involvement at every level
  • Ethical paranormal interpretation — no exploitation, no sensationalism

This is not a “scare attraction”.

It’s a living archive of local stories.

This project exists to make sure that doesn’t happen.

What the Museum Will Offer

  • Free ground-floor heritage and folklore exhibitions
  • Guided tours exploring paranormal history and artefacts
  • Community ghost walks
  • Talks, workshops, and storytelling events
  • Small-group paranormal investigation experiences
  • A shop supporting the museum through books, gifts, and locally inspired items

How the Money Will Be Used

The funds raised through this Crowdfunder will be used to bring the museum to life and ensure it opens on solid, sustainable foundations.

Specifically, funding will support:

  • Initial premises costs, including deposit and early rent
  • Decoration and basic fit-out to make the space safe, welcoming, and accessible
  • The ethical acquisition of artefacts, sourced from reputable sellers, collectors, and institutions, with clear provenance and legitimate historical backgrounds
  • Display cases and secure artefact storage, ensuring items are protected, preserved, and responsibly presented
  • Insurance, licensing, and compliance costs
  • Furniture and visitor facilities
  • Paranormal investigation equipment, used strictly for documentation, research, and educational purposes
  • Website, ticketing, and booking systems

This funding will support everything required to open the museum’s doors in a sustainable and ethical way.
