Aim

Help give Jessop Primary School a brand new community pitch, and get it resurfaced over the summer holidays for September 2025.

Jessop Primary School’s beloved all-weather community pitch – where England cricketer Ebony Rainford-Brent bowled her first over – is now unsafe and unplayable. We have a unique opportunity to get the community pitch resurfaced over the summer holidays ready for the new school year in September 2025.

This isn’t just a school pitch – it’s a community lifeline. Every year, over 1,500 children and adults use it for:

  • PE lessons, sports days and Bikeability training
  • Girls and boys cricket, hockey, tennis and other sports
  • Football teams like the Jessop Lionesses, Lions, Dulwich Hamlet Juniors & Community Kids training sessions.
  • Community activities like Dad’s & male carers club, and walking football for older residents
  • Community celebrations like our school carnival and summer fairs

We’re a group of parents, carers and community members raising funds to resurface this vital space so that our children and neighbours can run, play, train and thrive together once again.

We have raised £19,000 towards our £31,000 goal so far. We now just need to raise £8,000 with the additional £4,000 coming from match funding, meaning you donation will go even further!

Jessop Headteacher Mr Kenneth Baffoe said “The pitch is central to life at the school and the wider community who use it. It’s been really sad to watch it deteriorate over the last few years and it is now in desperate need of repair - your support is needed now.”

Victoria Bacon, a coach for Dulwich Hamlet Junior FC U9s said: “The pitch over the season has just become worse and worse and is virtually unplayable. If it’s not fixed we will need to look for another place to train and there is a real shortage of pitches in the area.”

Jessop sits at the heart of Lambeth – a vibrant, diverse area where families work hard to give their children the best start in life, even in tough circumstances.

  • 38% of our pupils are eligible for Pupil Premium
  • 36%  have no garden to play in at home
  • 23% have special educational needs

This pitch is more than a pitch with goals. It’s a place where:

  • Kids discover sport and build confidence
  • Families connect across generations and cultures
  • Community clubs bring people together, week after week

With your help, we can:

  • Resurface the pitch with safe, modern materials
  • Open it up for wider community use
  • Create new opportunities for fitness, friendship and fun
  • Ensure every child at Jessop – and beyond – has space to thrive
  • Provide Jessop with an on-going income stream to support sports and other school activities

Every donation, big or small, gets us closer to the goal.

Imagine a safe, vibrant sports pitch where children can play freely, community groups can thrive, and future sporting heroes can take their first steps. Thank you for investing in the future of Jessop Primary School and our community!

Let’s give our children – and our community – the pitch they deserve.

Please donate, share, and help us bring play back to Jessop.
