North Birmingham Community Gymnastics opened its doors in 2017. It was set up by the charity 'Erdington Gymnastics Club' which is one of the oldest gymnastics clubs in the country being formed in 1890.
The charitable aims of NBC Gymnastics are to provide elite level facilities and high level coaching to all children regardless of their ability or disability. Our many years of experience in sport drew attention to the fact that children and young people who take part in sports, especially gymnastics, for recreation, fun and to keep fit are often provided with substandard facilities compared to those who are on an elite pathway. This can be a barrier to participation and especially to the retention of young people in sport. NBC Gymnastics was set up and operates to change this!
As of the beginning of 2023, NBC Gymnastics was one of the largest gymnastics clubs in the country and one of the only clubs to provide a full time disability programme. The club is managed by Louise Combellack and Sarah Hayward and is run by a fantastic team of professionals who are dedicated to providing the highest standard of sessions to our users.
At the beginning of July our facility was hit by 30 minutes of flash flooding. In just that short amount of time all of our rolls mats, floor coverings, crash mats and many pieces of equipment were destroyed. Our foam pits were ruined and our disability accessible podium was extensively damaged.
The facility has taken a long time to dry out and building works through our insurance company are beginning. Nearly £300,000.00 worth of damage has been caused. Thankfully, our insurance will cover the majority of this. However, due to the massive recent increase in the cost of materials, we have a slight shortfall. We need your help to cover this so that we can get our children back in the gym.
Thank you so much for taking the time to consider our campaign. If you need any further information or for any press enquiries, please contact Louise on the email address above
