Who are we?
Mountnessing Tennis Club is a key part of the village community in which it resides, offering opportunities for local residents, as well as those from further afield, to enjoy sport/ physical activity. The club offers a safe space outdoors in a beautiful setting, next to the windmill in a haven for local wildlife, for people from all walks of life, regardless of age, gender or background, to enjoy recreational sport all year round.
Community impact
Mountnessing Tennis Club is predominantly a venue for tennis, open to both its members and non-members alike. The club, through its court hire scheme is open to all, as well as various club sessions open to non-members and the club has also started a walking tennis programme for those returning from injury or less able and a learning disability tennis programme in partnership with Grove School. The club is also a regular participant in the annual Mountnessing fayre, bringing the joy of tennis to anyone willing from the local community.

Why are we crowdfunding?
'Centre court' in its former glory
Unfortunately 'former' is now the operative word when it comes to Court3, as the court is no-longer safe to use, though it had a good innings of almost 30 years. The court has become unsafe partly due to subsidence in one corner but also because the surface remains saturated from Autumn to Spring due to our much-loved British weather, so is in dire need of some TLC to restore it to its former glory.
The cost of refurbishing the court is c.£48k and we already have £15k of our own funds. The £30k target is the remainder, though we already have a pledge of £15k towards this target from Sport England's Movement Fund, which is a great start and conditional on us raising the rest from a minimum of 100 supporters.
How it looks these days 😞
How we’ll spend the money raised
All of the money raised will be spent to completely refurbish the court and bring it back to playing life.
This will involve the subsidence being rectified via new retainers being installed to the corner of the court to prevent recurrence of the land-slip, with the court's sub-surface then fully levelled, followed by a new artificial grass top surface laid.
Christmas coming early perhaps?
How you can play your part
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge and claim your reward. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards yourself. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
4. Create a fundraiser of your own. Use the button on our page to get started. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
