Moretonhampstead Development Trust aim to start a new Community / Men in Sheds workshop for all members of the Moretonhampstead Community.
On the 8th August 2023 we'd raised £6,091 with 66 supporters in 42 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
If we manage to raise the larger amount then it means we can hit the ground running and complete the essential work to the building and look to supply the new workshop members with tools and materials to start working on community projects.
The Moretonhampstead ‘Men in Sheds’ Community workshop. Connection, conversation and creation – that’s what joining a Men’s Shed is all about.
Men’s Sheds encourage people to come together to make, repair and repurpose, learning new skills and supporting projects in their local communities.
Improving well-being, reducing loneliness and combatting social isolation.
Our Shed is similar to a garden shed – a place to pursue practical interests at leisure, to practice skills and enjoy making and mending. The difference is that a garden shed and its activities are often solitary in nature whilst the
Community Shed is the opposite. It’s about social connections and friendship building, sharing skills and knowledge, and of course a lot of laughter. The workshop will be open to all adult members of the community; but certain days will be set aside to provide a workshop space exclusively for men to meet. Events will be arranged for youngsters to learn new skills in carpentry.
The plan is that the workshop will be a base for all members of the community to access on different days to learn new skills and share knowledge - these could include:
· Carpentry
· Metal working
· Tool maintenance
· DIY skills
· Furniture making and repair
The community can put forward project ideas for the shed to produce and for courses to be run.
It is a place for everyone and where all are welcome to share a cuppa and sand some wood whilst putting the world to rights!
Why do we need help?
We have now opened a new workshop in the yard behind The Central Café. Walk through the archway and you will see our signage on the entrance. Please walk in and meet the Shedders. We are still fitting out the Workshop with equipment and would like to purchase more hand tools and specific equipment for our Shedder’s to experience modern techniques. CNC Router, 3D printer. Etc. Also funds towards the rent and future running costs.
We need your support to do all that!
You can get in touch with The Community Workshop and register your interest in joining the group at [email protected]
