Addressing well-being issues, combating social isolation, and supporting social prescription and physical health in outdoor environment
It all began following a personal turning point in 2021 that made me step back and reflect on what truly matters. Having spent many years living and working within farming and rural life, I experienced first-hand how powerful nature, animals and meaningful daily activity can be in supporting wellbeing. I felt strongly that these benefits should be shared with others, not just experienced by a fortunate few.
Together with two passionate supporters, I founded the Merry Moos Farm Project, becoming a Community Interest Company (CIC) on 30 June 2021, operating on a not-for-profit basis. Our vision is to establish a working wellbeing farm providing a safe, welcoming outdoor environment where people can reconnect with themselves, others and nature.
The project aims to address wellbeing challenges, reduce social isolation and support social prescribing through accessible land-based activities. We will support older adults, adults with learning or physical disabilities, individuals experiencing isolation, and members of the wider rural community who may benefit from early wellbeing support.
Planned activities include therapeutic gardening within an accessible market garden, animal care and equine interaction, wildlife conservation areas, tree planting and light farm tasks that help build confidence, routine and social connection. The farmhouse will provide a warm community space where participants and volunteers can meet, share experiences and feel part of something meaningful.
Funds raised will help provide essential equipment needed to safely deliver these activities, including a large polytunnel, gardening tools, accessibility equipment and animal care resources. These practical items will allow participants to actively engage from day one, helping the farm become a place of purpose, inclusion and recovery.
Merry Moos Farm Project is rooted in lived experience, community spirit and a genuine desire to give something back — creating a place where both people and animals can thrive together.
