We're still collecting donations
On the 28th June 2022 we'd raised £15,005 with 100 supporters in 42 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
To get our own equipment to provide more classes to a wider age group and reach more members of the community.
On the 28th June 2022 we'd raised £15,005 with 100 supporters in 42 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
The extra money would help create transport solutions, such as a squad minibus to take members to and from events and allow for enrichment opportunities.
Who are we?
Mercia Boxing Club was founded by Don and Emma Howes in 2021. After teaching their own children to box from an early age and Don having boxed himself, they saw the benefits of teaching young people to box. Don and Emma decided to reach out and provide boxing classes to the wider community within and around Tamworth. They have provided the very best coaching for the members of the club; this has been proven in several wins through successful amateur bouts.
What we do:
We at Mercia Boxing Club strive to provide a space for children and young people to learn the discipline and skills involved with boxing. Boxing is excellent in helping children focus and learn values that can help them through mental health issues and become physically fitter in the process.
Getting children into boxing helps to create a safe community within and outside of the club. Providing children with a space to go after school in the evenings or on the weekends can not only benefit their boxing skills but their social lives too providing purpose and goals to children to work towards.
What are our goals?
Mercia Boxing club wants to be able to expand its classes to a wider range of people within the community. Expanding from solely teaching children aged 11-17 to a more diverse group of people such as women only, adults and elderly fitness classes, will help us be a proactive member of the community allowing people to earn the physical and mental benefits for themselves. It can also serve as a place to interact and enjoy spending time with others and learning about other individuals within our society. Not only this we want to create successful competitive athletes that can challenge on the national amateur stage.
Our current boxing ring set up, this is only tempory and requires setting up every time we want to use it.
How will we use the funding?
In order to do this Mercia boxing will use the money raised to provide its own better equipment. We would have the ability to purchase more substantial items such as our own full-size ring and punch bags. To help with our vision of creating an inclusive space for everyone more funds would help us purchase equipment such as, gloves and head guards for boxers who may be disadvantaged, we could also provide subsidised classes for such members.
A list of items we would like to purchase should we have enough funding:
Commonwealth Games 2022 - How we will be united with Birmingham 2022
With Birmingham only being a short trip down the motorway from Tamworth we are excited to welcome the games coming to our local area. We hope that when amateur boxing is broadcast to a wider audience it will inspire young people and children to get involved in boxing. To set goals for themselves whether they are big, going to international competitions such as the commonwealth games, or small, simply getting fitter or off the street.
We at Mercia Boxing will help get our local area excited about the games and the opportunity they provide, by hosting a boxing fun day alongside the Commonwealth Games to get the whole community involved. We want to promote our sport as it is shown at the highest level and find new sports in which we can follow.
