Provide more emergency food parcels and essential items to families in need.
Why are we asking for your support?
Guided by the Mayflower 400 values of humanity and future, the partnership between Argyle Community Trust & Four Greens Community Trust is aiming to raise a minimum of £3,000 for urgent food support. This will add to the £2,500 cash already raised and donations received from local businesses to provide a minimum of 100 food and activity parcels to families and individuals most in need. The parcels will include:
"Never asked for a food parcel or support before in my life but have been made unemployed due to Covid and never thought my finances would spiral out of control so quickly. Find it so difficult to ask for food but if I do not my children will suffer" - parent of two children living in Whitleigh
"I am on a zero hours contract and not sure if I will have any work up until Christmas now we are back in lockdown. Living on Universal credit and hate it, but it is the only income I have at this time. The pressures of Christmas is making me feel unwell" - Young man who works in the hospitality sector from Southway.
"I am lonely anyway but now I am unable to get out the house due to my health at present it makes it even worse" - 83 year old resident from the Barbican area of Plymouth.
Who we are?
Argyle Community Trust & Four Greens Community Trust started working collaboratively to deliver community sports activities as part of the Mayflower 400: Get Active programme. This programme aims to empower the local community to improve their health and wellbeing. This is a community and neighbourhood focused support programme which targets those most in need and aims to improve the quality of life of the participants it reaches.
This partnership has evolved due to the need to provide emergency support to those most affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Since March 2020 this partnership has supported over 600 families in a variety of ways to include befriending support, debt advice, emergency utilities support payments and the provision of up to 120 food parcels a week.
We believe this appeal aligns to our commitment to improving people’s lives, encouraging a spirit of giving and clearly links to the Mayflower 400 values around humanity and future.
How will we do this?
