Martineau Mondays are our free, weekly drop-in outdoor activity sessions that engage local people with regular social activity, improve their wellbeing and help them to live healthy lifestyles. Adults can come along and take part in activities such as Tai Chi, mindfulness walks and green woodworking, which have a positive impact on mood, provide gentle exercise and new social contacts, and develop creativity.
“I love being around all the activities and people. It makes me feel hopeful, gives me energy.”
We particularly focus on working with people who are socially isolated, including people living alone, newly-arrived adults living in temporary accommodation, those with mental health or other support needs, people experiencing life issues like divorce/bereavement, and older people. The activities are delivered by local, skilled practitioners who have a strong understanding of mental health support. The focus is on community, wellbeing, creative collaborative working, and engagement with our safe, welcoming green space.
“Martineau provides a calm/tranquil environment, free of the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Allows time to breathe and slow down thoughts.”
Martineau Gardens is a 2.5-acre therapeutic community garden, close to Birmingham city centre, that has been running for over 25 years. We provide a safe, welcoming, non-judgemental space for the people of Birmingham and beyond to connect with nature and other people, and to improve their wellbeing, whatever their situation.
“The space at Martineau Gardens is calm and tranquil and perfect for mindful activities. Just walking through the entrance in the morning and hearing the birds singing is relaxing.”
We are delighted to have been chosen as one of the 27 causes supported by the NHS Property Services Community Fund, where their colleagues will support us by fundraising for Martineau Mondays.
