Mark Ashton plaque is now up for all to see

Hi supporters,

The plaque which you generously crowdfunded is now sparkling above Gay's The Word bookshop, 66 Marchmont Street, London WC1N 1AB for all the world to see. I'm very sorry that I couldn't invite you to the unveiling cermony as a donor. We had to agree a maximum of 100 guests with the council because of safety concerns on a busy inner city street. The short unveiling ceremony took place yesterday afternoon (Friday 19th May). It was Mark's birthday (he would have been 57 years old). The speakers were Ashtar Al Kirshan (former Mark Ashton Trust and personal friend of Mark), Dave Lewis (LGSM Press Secretary), Dai Donovan (Neath, Dulais and Swansea Valley Miners' Support Group, Jim McSweeney (Manager of Gay's The Word) and Lee Ashton (Mark's younger brother) and myself. The speeches were moving but short and sweet. Lee pulled the veil of the plaque to raucous applause.  There are lots of photos and videos of the event being posted on social media and more to come. Have a look at our Twitter page: @LGSMpride and the Mark Ashton Facebook page.

Many thanks again for helping to remember and pay tribute to Mark with this beautiful plaque.

And here's me with a special guest who came to support us and of course was in the movie
