Luisa's First Restaurant
We did it
On 15th March 2022 we successfully raised £1,202 with 28 supporters in 48 days

We're opening our first restaurant after the huge success of our pilot at Radcliffe Market

by Dom Szafranski in Manchester, Greater Manchester, United Kingdom

Luisa’s is growing faster than we had ever imagined. If you had told us 3 years ago when we first opened that we would be opening an entire restaurant, then we’d have laughed! But that day is actually upon us.

With the additional space at the new restaurant we will be able to expand our menu to introduce pasta dishes, starters, sharers, and desserts, as well as a fully stocked bar with cocktail menu.

We have raised a phenomenal £70,000 to make our first restaurant a reality, but with rising construction and equipment costs, unfortunately our budget is not enough to cover everything. We don’t quite have the buying power of big chain restaurants (yet!).

This is why we are looking for your help - to cross this final hurdle and get our doors open for you. We are looking for an additional £15,000 to pay for crucial equipment like extraction, and electrical works.

What little lending options we have available to us have been exhausted and we find ourselves mid-construction with a fine line between make & break.

2021 was a tricky year for us, but we were lucky enough to have earned two awards, a Tripadvisor Traveller's Choice Award and a Good Food Blue Ribbon Award. In our new restaurant we hope to push ourselves even further to grow our menu, quality, and service.

Future Goals

We started Luisa’s as a way to create fair employment in an industry plagued with long, underpaid hours, and even worse benefits.

While we’ll admit we aren’t hitting all of the goals we set for ourselves - we are proud of the steps we have made towards them.

We have a strong belief on supporting a work-life balance for our employees, and for ourselves; which is why, at our new restaurant, we have introduced capped 30-hour work weeks with equivalent industry-average full-time pay. We want to continously communicate with our team to understand what's working, and what isn't, to shape our goals going forward.

Luisa’s wouldn’t be in the position it is in without the people who put it there, and we will forever strive to provide secure, desirable, and strong employment for our team.
