Support Our Trans Masc Led Short Film (LGBTQ+ Mental Health, Discrimination, Online Bullying, Early-stage Transitioning Awareness)

"LOVE/HATE" Written by Jace Richardson and Michael Gray

FILMING WEDNESDAY 29th APRIL AND THURSDAY 30TH APRIL IN WIGAN.

In a country where 99% of trans people have experienced transphobia on social media, LOVE/HATE represents the 88% of trans victims whose stories remain untold while navigating a failing system.

Logline

One year into his medical transition, Mo must survive a relentless collision of digital harassment, public misinformation and workplace discrimination, weaponised by the mother he reaches to for comfort and forcing him to find unseen mental strength to endure.

Synopsis

Mo is one year into his medical transition, doing his best to exist in a world that keeps pushing back. Home offers no refuge, as old tensions around Mo's identity resurface when they reach for comfort from their Mum. In social spaces casual comments and confident misinformation mirror digital harassment as an anonymous troll fixates on them twisting their identity, distorting the truth and refusing to disappear.

Mo reaches a breaking point; uncertainty, personal insecurities and every day hostility overlap. For too many queer people, the relentless accumulation of ingrained societal homophobia and transphobia is inescapable. LOVE/HATE exists to underline this reality. Harm is rarely acknowledged and endurance, mental strength and survival often happens unseen.

About the project

LOVE/HATE is an independently produced LGBTQ+ short film driven by a clear creative vision with funding and contributions for the project secured through community support, sponsors and partnerships. Jace Richardson (Resolute Productions) has developed LOVE/HATE over the past two years, leading the project as Producer.

LOVE/HATE is supported by a growing team of collaborators, ensuring both strong creative leadership and professional delivery. With development complete and production planning underway, the film is moving into its final stages.

Jace Richardson (Producer/Writer)

LOVE/HATE highlights LGBTQ+ visibility, spreading awareness about trans people in the early-stages of transitioning, real and current online abuse, mental health pressures, discrimination, harassment, safety and public space.

This is a passion led project that I have developed with Michael Gray for a few years that I believe deeply in so I am personally investing my time, labour and energy to make it happen. We've applied for multiple funding opportunities since 2024 and every time we've unsuccessful so I'm doing it myself. We've both worked hard to refine the script over the years and as I'm now 15 months on Testosterone, it has really developed with my personal experiences of transitioning gender. Your support means a lot and I can't thank you enough for funding impacting and meaningful creative work that will empower and represent the trans community authentically.

Why this matters now

This project is important to me not just creatively but socially and culturally. In the current climate, it feels more important than ever to support trans voices and ensure real impactful stories are able to exist, be completed and be seen.
