Leigham Community Hall is owned & run by St Edward’s Church, Eggbuckland. However, religious activity has currently ceased and the hall is run entirely for community events.
The hall provides the only centre for community activities on the estate with something taking place every day.
The Hall was built over 50 years ago but very little maintenance has taken place in the intervening years. A project to refurbish the hall commenced in 2022 after a building survey revealed the need for major work. In 2023, the roof was renewed. We now wish to move to the second phase of the project:
- Install Double-Glazed windows. This will increase insulation & replace old & rusty single-glazed windows
- Install security grills on all the windows. Security is essential to prevent vandalism.
- Refurbish the flat roof over the toilets & reception area. This will incorporate insulation & prevent the leaks that currently occur when we have a downpour.
The hall provides a centre for various user groups:
- 4 Dog Training groups
- Weekly bingo
- Men’s shed-for retired man & women
- Karate club for young people
- Football training for children
In addition, the public benefit from the hall as there are many events staged there:
- Children’s parties
- Public meetings-Council, Housing Association etc.
- Poppy Day Appeal
- Polling Station
When a young girl went missing a few years ago, the police used the hall as the centre for their investigations.
The key objectives of the hall and this project are
- Bring people together & build strong relationships across the community
- Improve places & spaces that matter to the community
- Create healthier & more active people in the community
