Khalsa Leamington Hockey Club offers hockey and a social environment across a range of members from young children, aged 5, to seniors in Leamington Spa, Warwick, Kenilworth, Coventry and the surrounding area. We are one of the largest clubs in the Midlands, fielding over 30 teams, with 200+ Junior Academy, and numerous Masters and Cup teams, including junior and adult players that have represented county, region and their country.
Following the merger in 2019 of two successful clubs, Khalsa HC and Leamington HC, KLHC was formed and is a club that prides itself on being able to offer hockey from grassroots through to international level, and inspiring generations of families to play the beloved sport.
Based in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, KLHC provides a vital community facility for over 500 players and their associated families, with players travelling from all areas of the Midlands to be part of our fantastic club, playing socially to competitive National League level for both Men and Ladies.
Catering For All Ages & Abilities
We cater for all ages and abilities and are lucky enough to have very dedicated members. Our junior academy successfully develops the next generation of players into the senior teams, some of whom are now gaining international experience and selection to England. Our seniors offer a range of player ability options, from entering hockey with 'Back to Hockey' to National League and cup entry for ladies, men and mixed, with many having and continuing to play at international levels across the age ranges. Our club provides kids, men, ladies and parents the opportunity to play hockey, forming a family friendly atmosphere at the heart of our club breaking down barriers in our local community through the shared love of sport. As a result, many of our players also provide key coaching to the local community both at schools and through the England Hockey player pathway at county and regional levels. For those wanting to get active again, but can't run, we offer 'Walking Hockey.' We also have a thriving social hub and offer umpiring and coaching opportunities but we need a new clubhouse and pitch to call our home for our local area and reducing the carbon footprint of our members playing regularly that need to travel further.
What are we trying to achieve?
We currently do not have a dedicated pitch for games but due to the club's continuing success and popularity, the need has arisen for the club to have specific facilities which will meet current guidelines and our status as a National League Hockey Club. Thanks to the generous gifting of land and space, the proposal is now to raise enough funds to build and provide changing facilities and a clubhouse together with an All Weather Hockey Pitch at land off Bericote Road.
Aside from the general changing and treatment facilities, the building will also include a club room providing refreshment facilities for both players and spectators and offer the local community a space for events and an opportunity for the local schools and businesses to utilise the pitch and or clubhouse. We are proposing 55 car parking spaces and 2 coach parking spaces to be provided as well suitable walkways and space for cycle parking to encourage an active and healthy lifestyle.
We have been very lucky that the land has been donated by Dr Gurmit Singh and family of which we are hugely grateful. We now need to help fund the construction of the pitch and clubhouse. This will build on the club's recent success and enable the plans for the future by providing the local community with accessible facilities to Leamington, Warwick, Kenilworth, Coventry and surrounding areas.
Inspired by Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games
Hockey is one of the feature sports in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham 2022 and will be a great opportunity for us to inspire the next generation of children in the area. In 2012 we ran multiple sessions and launched our junior section of the club on the back of the Olympics and as a result we now have a large 200+ strong junior section. With the Games extremely local to Leamington Spa, we have an opportunity to promote this project and sport in the region and hopefully we can leverage the Games and a New Pitch and Clubhouse to inspire new members into sport using these facilities on the back of the Commonwealth Games.
We need your help
Without the funding we cannot build the pitch and clubhouse. Help us to build this fantastic facility that will be well placed to help our local community and for the club to grow and reach wider and set a legacy for health, wellbeing and inclusion for today's and future generations.
