Aim
We want to upgrade our playpark from a nearly empty rusting playpark to an exciting area for children to play in and adults to meet.
We urgently need to upgrade our local playpark from an empty, rusting eyesore (see below) to a safe, exciting area where children can play and adults can meet.
Why are we crowdfunding?
In the summer of 2019 our small rural village in the East Neuk of Fife (approximately 220 houses and 39 children at primary school) came together to improve our playpark. It is the only area for children to play and meet in our village.
The local authority is not able to replace dilapidated items through lack of money, though a Council officer, together with the community, did design a wonderful new playpark which Fife Council will install, maintain and insure, once we raise the funds.

As you can see, the plan is to offer something for everyone:
- Various swings, a springer, and a gyro roundabout
- Trim trail and multiplay unit
- Two seating areas and a picnic table
- Mini soccer goals with nets (no more soggy jackets on the ground!)
How much will it cost?
We were initially asked to raise £62,500 by December 2019, which we did with a series of fundraising events and applications to local businesses, trusts and funders.
However, the effects of the pandemic meant that Fife Council was not able to tender the playpark work until June 2020. The price came back in September as £82,835 and we therefore need to raise an additional £20,335. Fife Council has now commissioned the park so that the price does not rise again, and we must raise this extra money by the end of December 2020 so that construction can begin in February 2021.
What is our current position?
Through the generosity of our existing funders, we have so far managed to raise £8,167.65 towards the additional amount required.
This leaves us with £12,167.35 left to find.
Who we are
The Kingsbarns Playpark team is a combination of local parents, children and the Community Council, who have come together to make a wonderful area for all ages. You can see from the new design above it will be full of great things to do, even for adults!
The money that we raise through crowdfunding will go directly to making this play area a place where all our children, parents and residents can meet together to have fun and improve our physical and mental health. We even have an apple tree to plant so we can eat from it and cook with the produce!
Please help us!
We are asking everyone to please help us create a wonderful place for our children to play. It is very difficult to raise funds for children in rural coastal areas where the numbers are not high but there are so few available activities. We have no library, no cinema, no leisure centre in our village. Just an old and dilapidated playpark with a few rusty pieces. We know that times are hard and people have a lot of commitments. But if you can help by donating to our project, no matter how small the amount, our children would be so grateful.
