Aim

We are supporting those in poverty by supplying free food from our foodbank and information on budget and finance support.

We have had people turn up looking for food that are thin and have not eaten for several days. This is because they do not have the finances to buy it.  They are extremely grateful to have food donated to them. We have families that are waiting for benefits to come through and have no money in the meantime to buy food, those that have got jobs but waiting for their pay check.

We started our free foodbank for the local community of Keyham during COVID. People where self-isolating and we were delivering food free to those that could not afford it or could not get out of their house due to COVID.

Since then our foodbank has grown as has demand. While we do not deliver food any more we do still offer it free to those that cannot afford to buy it and to anyone in Plymouth.  On average we help over 100 people with food a week.  We buy food from Fareshare and Lidl, with many food donations from Devon and Cornwall Food Action and many others.

We always need plastic or paper bags for food and will except food donations even if out of date as long as it is the Best Before date not an out of date on USE BY.

We have a Navy chef that cooks food that is frozen and given out to those that might have limited cooking facilities e.g. only a slow cooker or microwave.

As a food bank running twice a week we need money to buy food, print some leaflets about budgeting and finance and provide this information to support those in need.  By providing free budgeting and finance information we hope to help people feel more secure and in control of their money and perhaps not come to relay on the use of a food bank indefinitely but rather just a step to help them out of financial difficulty. PLEASE HELP DONATE TOWARDS THIS WORTHY CAUSE.
