Maintain current levels of pool-hire, increase training opportunities, host community swimming events to engage new swimmers.

We're still collecting donations

On the 29th July 2024 we'd raised £15,364 with 121 supporters in 68 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.

 New stretch target

If we reach our initial target the extra money raised will go towards hosting an Autumn meet in Leeds in September whilst our main training and competition pool is closed for refurbishment.

This will not only bring further funds into continue supporting our swimmers on their journey but also enable them to compete at a higher level and gain qualification times for regional and national competitions.

KUHSC Autumn Meet

Who are we?

Kingston Upon Hull Swimming Club was formed in 1996 when Hull Olympic and City of Hull swimming clubs merged. KUHSC is a friendly competitive swimming club, catering for swimmers of all ages and abilities. Swimmers as young as 5 begin their swimming journey in Academy 1, leading all the way to Elite Performance where swimmers aged 12+ train and compete at the highest level. We also have a very popular Masters squad with highly competitive older swimmers, some competing at national level. Our youngest member is 5 and the oldest is 87! We provide a structure that enables swimmers to progress from swimming widths to the podium at the National Championships.

The aim of KUHSC is to enable our athletes to be the best they can be.

“It’s not enough to simply dream, you have to dream big!

Anything is possible you just need to believe it.

Whether you think you can or you can’t you’re right.”

Why are we crowdfunding?

The impact of Covid is still massively being felt at KUHSC. We have experienced a fall in membership, increased fees for pool hire and a loss of income due to not being able to hold galas.

Pool-hire costs the club over £120,000 per annum. This is not sustainable without significantly increasing the monthly fees for our members, which in the midst of a cost of living crisis, we simply cannot do.

We have also recently learnt that our main training and only competition pool (Ennerdale) is due to close for repairs in September 2024. This will pose a significant number of problems, not least the inability to hold open galas, the financial lifeline which enables the club to offset the very high operating costs.

This fund is designed to enable KUHSC to maintain current levels of pool-hire over the coming year in Hull’s pools, increase training opportunities for our coaches and volunteers and host community swimming events to encourage new young people into club swimming.

If the fund is a success, our members will continue to be able to train with their friends, maintain a high level of fitness and achieve their personal goals. Belonging to KUHSC is more than just about swimming. The discipline, commitment and team spirit engender values in our swimmers they will value for life.

How we’ll spend the money raised

Reaching our target will allow us to:

  • Support with the increasing cost of pool hire (due to the rise in energy prices), which will enable us to continue to offer the optimum number of training sessions across our squads.
  • Keep training fees to a minimum.
  • Support the training and development of our coaching team
  • Train more parents as lifeguards to keep operating costs down
  • Purchase essential training equipment
  • Offer training in a 50m pool to all squads above Academy level

Community impact

We are conscious we operate in an area that has a number of challenges with high levels of social and economic deprivation. Our ability to be able to support through our hardship fund to families who may not financially be in a position to fully support their swimmer to reach their full potential is a priority, as we want swimming to be accessible to all.

We are lucky that we have a strong relationship with the leisure centre provider operating the pools that we use, which enables us to offer a variety of sessions/hours to support the squads that we have.

How you can play your part

There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.

1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!

2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.

3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!

4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
