Aim

We need to raise funds to pay for urgent structural repairs and keep our not-for-profit teaching pool open for our swimmers and community.

Who are we?

Brighton Swimming Centre is a not for profit, dedicated teaching pool in the heart of Brighton.  We teach swimming lessons to more than 1200 swimmers a week; are the base for Britain's first sea swimming course, Pool to Pier; and train over 100 swimming teachers and lifeguards every year.  We exist to transform lives and shape futures.

Why are we crowdfunding?

During some routine maintenance at the end of 2025 it was discovered that there were serious repairs needed to the front wall of the centre. As part of the repairs large sections of the front wall needed to be taken down and rebuilt.  Due to the urgent nature of these repairs and to allow the centre to continue to operate they could not be delayed and are currently in process.  We are now looking to our community to help us raise the money needed to cover the cost of the repairs.

This funding will allow us to continue to offer high quality swimming lessons to our community, support their health and wellbeing, encourage people to have the confidence and skill to swim in the sea safely and continue to train the next generation of swimming teachers and lifeguards.

How we’ll spend the money raised

The money we raise will be used directly to cover the expenses for the essential repairs to the front wall of the centre.

Anything raised over and above what is needed for the wall repairs will be used for other important repairs to the facility (windows and roofing).

Community impact

  • Built in 1976, 50 years teaching Brighton to swim
  • 1,200 swimmers/week in lessons and sessions
  • Working with disadvantaged children through school swimming programme
  • Wider community hub for English as a second language, community choir & children's clubs

Our much loved community swimming pool has been helping our community learn to swim for 50 years.  We help some of the most disadvantaged children in our community learn to swim through our school swimming programme and our involvement in the council's Holiday Activity and Food fund.  Our new Aqua Aerobics sessions are helping our community get fit in a low impact environment. Helping the community swim confidently and safely in the sea has been the mission of our Pool to Pier programme since it's inception and we believe is a vital skill allowing the community to safely enjoy our largest and closest natural environment - the beach!

Brighton Swimming Centre is not just about swimming however, it is also an important community resource. Our training rooms host numerous classes for English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), a local community choir, and a Saturday children's club.  The centre has also been the hub for community sponsored charitable collections.  We want Brighton Swimming Centre to continue to serve and make a difference to our community.
