Creating memories with cake

I’m Sam, the cake artist behind The Tattooed Cake Lady, and I’ve created Ink & Icing because I believe some celebrations deserve an extraordinary cake, even when paying for one simply isn’t possible.

Over the years I’ve been lucky enough to create some pretty epic cakes. But the ones that mean the most aren’t necessarily the biggest or most elaborate. They’re the ones that become part of somebody’s story.

Ink & Icing raises money to create and gift bespoke, showstopping cakes to charities, good causes and brilliant people celebrating important moments.

That could be a child who has overcome an incredibly difficult start in life, a family celebrating a milestone after a challenging year, a local hero who deserves something special, or a charity holding an event and wanting a centrepiece worthy of the occasion.

So, what does your donation actually do?

Every pound raised goes into the Ink & Icing pot and helps make these cakes possible.

The money will be used towards the ingredients, materials and other costs involved in creating the cakes we gift. It means I can donate my skills and time without the cost of producing each cake becoming the thing that limits how many people Ink & Icing can help.

The more we raise, the more cakes we can create.

And these aren't intended to be basic free celebration cakes. The whole point of Ink & Icing is to create the sort of bespoke, ridiculous, ambitious, completely-personal-to-them cake that the recipient might otherwise never have.

Who can receive an Ink & Icing cake?

People can nominate themselves, someone they know, a charity or a good cause.

This isn't about finding the person with the saddest story. It's about finding celebrations where an amazing cake could make a genuinely special memory.

Recipients will be chosen based on their circumstances, their celebration and what Ink & Icing can realistically provide at the time.

Where we're starting

Ink & Icing is brand new, but the ambition is much bigger than one cake or one fundraiser.

Alongside donations through this page, I'll be raising money through events, cake sales, raffles, quizzes and whatever other slightly ridiculous fundraising ideas I come up with along the way.

The aim is to build an ongoing community-funded pot so that Ink & Icing can keep creating cakes throughout the year, not simply fund one project and disappear.

If you can donate £2, brilliant. If you can donate £20, amazing. And if you can't donate at all, sharing the project helps too.

Because sometimes cake is more than cake.

Sometimes it's a celebration, a surprise, a photograph, a story and a memory that sticks around long after the last slice has disappeared.

That's what Ink & Icing is here to create.
