Aim

An international collaboration between musicians from indigenous and marginalised communities & young emerging UK artists to IGNITE change.

On the Brink Arts (OTBA) was founded by Megan Medley, in 2021, to creatively engage young people and their communities with the urgent issues surrounding environment protection, climate change and social justice through art film and music.

In 2022, we produced a short film, Rise. Watch it on our YouTube channel.

The film is narrated in song, spoken word and rap, by a group of young people and features a powerful contribution from a leader of the Noke Koi nation. Poa Maestra from the Amazon Forest

We have run live music events throughout 2023 and 2024, where young people were given the stage to vocalise about their world, and we are proud to be able to share that three of the performers have since performed in Glastonbury Festival!

'𝘐𝘧 𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴𝘯'𝘵 f𝘰𝘳 𝘖𝘯 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘈𝘳𝘵𝘴 𝘸𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘵 '𝘉𝘭𝘢𝘨 𝘪𝘵' 𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳'- Luca Somersby, from the hip hop duo, 'Blag It'.

Our Idea

We’ve had close contact with the young leader from the Noke Koi, Washme, since making contact in 2021. This relationship, and the amazing young talent that we have met through the music events, started an idea brewing.....

🌍 Introducing: The Ignite Project

The Ignite Project is a bold new music collaboration uniting young emerging UK musicians with indigenous and marginalised communities across the globe. Working together, they will reimagine and remix traditional and original compositions and songs, producing new tracks by fusing them with contemporary UK lyrics and beats.

Each track will speak of the struggles and strengths of the communities involved, shining a light on their fight to protect their lands and cultures in the face of climate breakdown and injustice. In the process, this work creates space for deeper understanding, cultural connection, and new creative possibilities

We have already secured copyright for the Noke Koi 'Fire Song' and the the first song is already completed. LISTEN HERE

We are in the early stages of developing two more collaborations, in Dhakar, Bangladesh and Kampala, Uganda

This crowdfunder is a kick-starter to fund the next two songs, working with artists from Bangladesh and Uganda your donation will help us,

-Fund early stage research and development

-Provide artistic fees for all collaborators

-Cover project management

-Complete recording and production of the music

- Production of three music videos

What's next.- Once we have produced these next two tracks, we will go for further funding to enable us to build on the collection of songs

We will be contacting music venues and festivals to arrange live performance sessions from the Ignite project, and, if funding and logistics allow, invite the musicians to travel from abroad to perform alongside each other in the UK. With further funding, we will produce an album.

Any funds made from the release of the songs, the album and the performances will be split between the artists involved, with 50% share going directly back to the communities from which the music originates from

So please donate, and share and support  Ignite to create  songs in solidarity with our fellow human beings, and the natural world we all live in, promoting a movement of urgent direct climate action, resilience and empathy in the face of intolerance and segregation

And please get in contact via our website, or email [email protected] if you would like to get involved in this project

Unite, and Ignite!
