Iden Bowls Club is a small bowling club in rural East Sussex. It was founded in 1992 and is a very friendly, successful club attracting members from our village and the surrounding villages. We have some senior members, one of whom was a member when the Green was laid 32 years ago! We have always managed and maintained our own Green and all our members get together to do the maintenance work on the surrounding area, ensuring a beautiful bowls club which is an asset to our rural village. The Club is friendly and welcoming to everyone, of all ages and abilities, and from any background. In recent years our membership has grown steadily, encouraged by the open and welcoming environment created by existing members.
We provide coaching for new and existing bowlers and run regular friendly club roll-ups, club competitions and competitive and friendly matches with other clubs. We have an annual Tournament which is extremely popular amongst opposing teams who come to play.
If you would like to give lawn bowls a go, please come to our annual OPEN/FUN DAY - Friday 9th May. You can have a Cream Tea and you're welcome to bring family and friends too!
Bowls is great fun and sociable. We can teach you the basics and you can have fun mastering the skill!
Why are we crowdfunding?
We need to re-lay our Green. This will ensure that our bowling club will continue to prosper, ensuring activity for current and future members. Our contractor will take up the old Green and lay a new one, which will provide our bowlers and our opponents with a first class, competitive Green.
This is why we are crowdfunding and all money raised will go towards our fundraising efforts to provide Iden Bowls Club with new Green and a new Pétanque court.
The total cost of removing the existing Green and re-laying it is £14,275.
The estimated cost of the Pétanque court is £6000.
How we’ll spend the money raised
All the additional money raised from this Sport England Movement Fund and Crowdfunding project will go towards the re-lay of our Green and build a new Pétanque court. We hope to raise the funds for our project this year, so that work can start in August 2025, this will ensure an excellent pétanque court to be used through the winter of 2025 and a new Green for the 2026 season.
Community impact
Our Bowls Club is an important and vibrant part of the village of Iden. It is in the centre of our very rural village and many villagers come to bowl or take part in our social events, which include Bingo and a Club House Cafe where people can play games or knit and natter!
We provide opportunities for anyone to try out our sport on our annual organised Open Day. We hope to continue and widen these opportunities to play Pétanque and attend other social events. The addition of a Pétanque court will help our Club to continue to attract further new members and help greatly with the future success of our Club which will, in turn, benefit the wider community.
