We started our Judo club 3 years ago, and have exploded in numbers in the last 12 months.
We are now one of, if not, the biggest club in the midlands and have outgrown out current home. Which is a real shame as we have enjoyed our time at the Ath.
We have the financial ability to pay the rent and bills, however we need to raise initial funds to cover the building materials and the labour needed to bring a factory unit up to a first class facility that our members deserve.
The shopping list is huge:-
New mats (£10-12k)
Lighting (£1-2k)
Changing rooms (£3k)
Toilets (£2k)
Sprung floor (£10k+)
Seating (£8k)
Plus many more minor items like carpets, paint etc etc.
Some of the above are dream items we could probably make do with old or used things to start with, but what's the point of dreaming if you don't dream big?
This will be a community facility which we will happily let out for other clubs to use.
We are a community club who's mission it is to combat inactivity. Once we're in the new dojo, it will give us the ability to add sessions in the elderly, to help them beat the fear of falling. We will offer a new session for those with physical and intellectual disabilities and continue our work with foster kids in the area too.
We want this club to be a legacy for its members, we want to be in a position that one day we can employ our members as coaches and make professional coaching a reality for some and not just a dream.
As previously stated we want to combat inactivity, even if that is as little 30mins per week, we can get people off sofas and in a social environment where they can get even the slightest bit fitter and happier!
One of our members recently stated "I'm really sad I am injured, coming judo is the highlight of my week. Since starting I have noticed a change in my fitness and happiness" his daughter started with us, and then he followed and has lost a stone.
We have sessions for lots of ages and abilities, from 3 years old plus.
