To establish and grow an online school where learners can study outside or alongside...
GeoVLE aims to empower home educators and learners to reach their potential with flexible, broad and inspiring learning experiences.
Schools all over the world have closed and GeoVLE's online school is evolving and best placed to help students and parents at this challenging time.
At GeoScool, students log on to interactive and engaging lessons where they collaborate with subject experts and children of a similar age from all over the UK and beyond. Parents all over the world are signing up to GeoScool classes to help them structure their day at home with their children while schools are closed to limit the spread of coronavirus.
Even before coronavirus forced schools all over the world to close, some 50,000 to 100,000 students in the UK were being taught at home. The reasons range from bullying to dissatisfaction with the standard of education to parents just wishing to have that better contact and relationship with their children. Others choose to home educate for reasons such as travel or for physical health reasons or wellbeing needs or because they take part in specialist fields such as sports or the arts.

Here's a sample lesson with seven 7-10 year olds encouraging them to think about the world around them despite being in isolation. They finished the session with a challenge to create an invention.

At GeoVLE, we co-create with you and the learners in your care, personalised age and interest specific learning journeys. We put together termly packages of resources that link to appropriate and adaptive online learning games and interactive software to ensure you confidently support your children to progress across all aspects of the curriculum.

Some of our recent topics for early years have included:
You can order a GeoBox of resources to support these packages (or sponsor our campaign to get a home education starter pack). Our qualified teachers can also support you via weekly calls on Zoom.
Head of Education at GeoVLE, Joe Mabbort said, "Having taught my children at home for a number of terms I can honestly say it was the most rewarding of experiences and allowed me to share fully in their development."
GeoVLE is attracting a team of experts and like-minded individuals aiming to level the playing field by offering blended tuition in a sponsored, affordable or free form, providing the benefits of private education at a fraction of the cost.
Of the "Will it snow at Christmas" GeoBox one mum said, "really could not say enough good things about this... (to anyone who will listen :-) ... you really did an amazing job!!!! I am beyond excited for what you have in store because if it is half as good as this it is sure to be a success!!" (Genevieve is 10 and Kieran is 7).
Another said, "[Freddie's grandparents] started using GeoVLE in the holidays to keep my child on track for school and wow what a success it was! The activities were interesting and educational and inspired my very active little boy to try new skills. At this important age he adapted well to the holiday home ed package. Without a doubt we will be using this in the next holidays! Thanks GeoVLE!" (Freddie is 6 years old).
Pictures below show Genevieve and Kieran using the snow theme and accompanying GeoBox to discover new skills and have fun learning at their own pace...

Education needs change. It's time to think outside the "GeoBox". Support GeoVLE to create a flexible, inspiring, adaptive and personalised learning environment where all learners and educators can thrive and achieve their potential.
About me
Founder of GeoVLE, Kirstin Coughtrie is a teacher, online tutor and mother of 3. She has a passion for using technology to empower learners to take ownership of their studies.

Mission
Geovle's mission is to evolve an inspiring environment in which anyone can learn. Where educator and student curiosity are boosted by new teaching pedagogies, ed-tech software, realtime online tuition and gamification and set free from the boundaries of the classroom walls. Where the human dimension remains at the heart of everything we do; inspiring and mentoring students to be lifelong learners and co-creators of the future of their education.
Bring It 2020
Running a successful crowdfunding campaign in September last year enabled GeoVLE to purchase website and video conferencing software and start online marketing. We also grew our number of tutors, became corporate members of the Tutors' Association and got our first GCSE and A Level students signed up.
Going global
We've recently had interest in our courses from several Italian, Chinese and Australian students and if we reach our goal of £1000 with this campaign we will spend the money on recruiting more like minded tutors and upskilling them in teaching online as well as English as an additional language (EAL).
Winning the top prize in this competition would enable us to realise our dream of starting an inspiring online school and level the playing field by bringing the benefits of personalised, interactive education to more learners and showcase the revolution that's taking place in education.
