Aim

To protect and restore nature in the Scottish Highlands & Islands through funding and supporting community-led action.

About us

HIEF works to protect and restore nature by channelling funds into local projects, building on local knowledge and enthusiasm to tackle the biodiversity & climat crisises head-on. We build relationships with trusts and foundations, individual philanthropists, and corporates interested in supporting our work. Donations to HIEF are pooled into a ‘disbursement pot’ which funds projects across the length and breadth of the Scottish Highlands and Islands.

How the funds will be used

Funds raised will support a variety of projects. Examples of previous projects supported include:

Mapping the distribution of endangered skate populations in Orkney to inform conservation.

Restoring Temperate Rainforest in Ardura, Mull, by removing invasive species and re-wetting.

Community workshops showcasing Glenelg’s local wildlife and inspiring citizen science.
