We want to train 32 people working in community venues in our local area so that no-one has to face a mental health problem alone. Mental Health First Aiders are trained to be confident and competent to have conversations around mental health, and are therefore better equipped to help someone in crisis.
A recent survey conducted by Hospitality Action in June 2024 has shown that workers in the hospitality industry are suffering from an unprecedented rise in mental health struggles. Not only would being trained in Mental Health First Aid help hospitality patrons, it would also help hospitality staff support each other. It would also help Coventry & Warwickshire Mind further engage with our local community.
Whilst we're focusing mainly on pubs, restaurants and hotels in the local area, we would also offer places to local village halls, social clubs and groups - anywhere that provides a social environment to our local community.
Coventry & Warwickshire Mind wants to train as many local Mental Health First Aiders as possible, as soon as possible. Two cohorts of the 2-day Mental Health First Aid course would mean 32 extra Mental Health First Aiders in local venues.
Coventry & Warwickshire Mind provides over 20 mental health support services across our area, from light touch signposting to 24 hour care. Any extra funds received from this venture will go towards providing further cohorts of MHFA or more support in our community.
Some feedback from a Mental Health First Aider we have trained: “Attending this course was enlightening, enjoyable, emotional, challenging - a rollercoaster! I feel that I've learned a lot and am now equipped to deal with situations more effectively. The risk of a two-day course, with such long days was that it could have become monotonous. However, the trainer was great at reading the room and knowing when it was time to take breaks. It was great to see how passionate they were.”
Please help us support our local community!
