Building the Next Chapter for Hormead CofE School
Hormead Church of England School is a small, voluntary-aided village school on the outskirts of Buntingford, with a proud history dating back to 1815. Our Victorian building, gifted in 1846, has been at the heart of our community for generations. We are honoured to welcome children and grandchildren of families who once attended our school.
Over the years, our school has grown and adapted to meet the needs of our pupils. One thing, however, has remained unchanged: our original 180-year-old Victorian school hall. This well‑loved space has hosted countless moments of joy, celebration, learning and worship. From daily collective worship to school plays, lunches, PE lessons and community events, it has always been the beating heart of Hormead School.
The historic Victorian hall is an irreplaceable part of our history and will remain as an integral part of the school. However, while it holds enormous sentimental value, it is simply no longer large enough to meet the needs of a modern, growing school. We can no longer fit the whole school in for lunches or gather comfortably for performances and celebrations.
As we mark 180 years in our historic building, we are turning our attention to the future. To give our children the best possible experience - and to continue serving our wider community - we need a new hall that meets the needs of a modern, growing school.
Our Vision
We are launching a fundraising campaign to build a new, purpose-built school hall at the centre of Hormead CofE School.
A hall that will:
- Provide the space our pupils need for high-quality PE
- Welcome families comfortably for worship, shows and celebrations
- Include a stage for performances
- Offer much‑needed storage
- Serve our community for the next 100 years
This new hall will be more than a building - it will be an investment in our children, our families and the future of our village community.
