Craigrothie Village Hall - Saving Energy

Aim

Trying to make our hall greener and brighter. A warm, energy-efficient space where people can gather.

• What is our project about?

Making our hall greener and brighter.  Climate change and energy efficiency go hand in hand for the hall. Being a resiliance centre and able to provide a warm, welcoming and thriving space for the community is essential.

Who are we?

Craigrothie and Chance Inn are two small communities in rural Fife and our village hall is the only community facility in the surrounding area.  The current building was erected in the mid 1970s  and is undergoing a revamp to bring it into the 21st century and make it sustainable for future generations. The hall is run by volunteers on behalf of the villagers, our ages range from mid 30s through to our 70s.  

Our Vision - to transform Craigrothie Village Hall into a vibrant community space addressing the needs of our community  in the areas of education, wellness, and social engagement for all. The renovated village hall will serve as a welcoming, fully accessible space where we can offer diverse programs, from community events, events and activities for children and youth, for our senior citizens and everyone in between, facilities to hire, and more.

 The funding we seek will directly support:

• Renovations: Insulate, draught proof and insulate some more - the building had no insulation so heat goes straight out the walls.  The roof/ ceiling and floor are poorly insulated and airtightness tests have shown there is air leakage in many places. Removal of asbestos
• Moving towards Net Zero – installation of solar PV, battery storage and ASHP allows us to decrease our electricity usage and with battery storage the hall will be able to offer a Warm space during power cuts and emergencies.  The hall is s designated resilience centre by Fife Council.
• Essential repairs, safety improvements, and accessibility features, making Craigrothie Village Hall inclusive for all, including those with disabilities.
• New Outdoor Space: The space around the hall will hopefully be transformed into an outdoor meeting place and play area.

The renovation of the village hall will create a space where all residents can thrive together.

What have we achieved so far?  

Along with help from our community and many other supporters, grants and crowdfunding (thank you Aviva) the hall has a new roof, internal wall insulation, cellar infilled and damp proofed.  Asbestos has been removed.  

In process - we have funding in place for a renewable energy project together with match funding and the work is due to start in September.

Why do we need your help?

If we can raise £10,000 we will be able to install and insulate the ceiling in the main hall and reduce energy costs.

Together we can save our hall and create a modern, warm, net zero facility, for our community and for the generations to come.
