Support Groundbreaking Research on Caffeine and AMPK Regulation
By Dr. John-Patrick Alao, PhD, FHEA, CSci, MRSB
Hello, my name is Dr. John-Patrick Alao, and I am a biochemist and molecular biologist with over 20 years of experience in academic and biomedical research. I have held positions at Imperial College London, Gothenburg University (Sweden), University of East London, and University of Essex/Queen Mary University of London. My work has focused on the molecular mechanisms of cancer, cell cycle regulation, and metabolic control — with over 2,500 citations and publications in leading journals such as Cells, Microbial Cell, and Molecular Cancer.
My recent and ongoing research investigates how caffeine interacts with AMPK (AMP-activated protein kinase) — a central energy-sensing enzyme that regulates metabolism, aging, and stress resistance. Understanding this relationship could shed light on how dietary components like caffeine influence longevity, cellular health, and cancer susceptibility.
Unfortunately, short-term academic contracts and research funding gaps make it challenging to maintain momentum in independent projects like this. I am therefore seeking crowdfunding to cover basic living and research expenses for one year, allowing me to continue this important work without interruption.

This support will enable me to:
Why It Matters
AMPK is a major target in metabolic diseases, neurodegeneration, and cancer. Understanding how common dietary molecules like caffeine affect AMPK may contribute to:
How You Can Help
Every contribution — large or small — directly supports continued independent research into a promising and underexplored area of science.
If you believe in evidence-based nutrition, open science, and independent biomedical inquiry, your support can make a real difference.
Thank you for helping me continue this journey of discovery.
