Help us grow a welcoming, accessible garden in Stoke Newington — a shared green space for learning, healing and community.

🌿 Help us open up Allens Garden to the community

A hidden green space in Stoke Newington is becoming something amazing — with your help.

Allens Community Garden is a small, beautiful growing site tucked behind Bethune Road in N16. Once a salad growing site, it’s now being transformed into a community-run garden — a welcoming, accessible space for local people to grow food, spend time in nature, and come together.

We believe everyone should have access to green space, especially in London and a neighbourhood like Stoke Newington where many don’t have gardens or access to land.

🌱 What We’re Raising Money For

To turn Allens Community Garden into a fully inclusive and open space, we need to improve the site’s infrastructure, accessibility, and facilities. Your donation will help us:

  • Build accessible paths and entranceways so people using wheelchairs, mobility aids or pushchairs can use the space
  • Improve our indoor classroom so we can run community workshops rain or shine
  • Buy tools, compost, and plants to grow food and share skills
  • Host community events and workshops focused on growing, sustainability, wellbeing and creativity
  • Create a safe and welcoming environment for LGBTQIA+ folks, disabled people, neurodivergent people, and those with lived experience of mental health challenges
  • Restore the compost toilet, a much needed on-site facility
  • Restore the pond and orchard areas to create sensory and therapeutic spaces
  • Pay our Head Grower, who manages the site and all growing, a fair wage
  • Support outreach and engagement so we reach diverse, underrepresented groups

🧡 Why This Matters

Spending time in nature is proven to support mental health, physical wellbeing and social connection. But access to land in cities is unequal.

This project is led by people rooted in this community — most of our organisers grew up within walking distance of Allens Community Garden, and all are LGBTQIA+. Many have lived experience of mental health struggles and neurodivergence.

We're building a garden where everyone feels welcome and is able to grow.
