Raising funds for more trees on Hawarden Grove

by Niki Henderson in London, Greater London, United Kingdom

 New stretch target

More trees in the neighbourhood will make the area more welcoming, support wild birds and mitigate the effects of climate change, by providing shade and lower temperatures in hot weather, as well as helping reduce flooding - our area is at high risk of surface water flooding. If we raise more than our target we will use the extra money to do more planting in the local area.

This is a community Crowdfunder organised by the Residents Association on Hawarden Grove SE24 to plant more trees on our street.

"Trees are amazing. They have the power to cool our pavements during heatwaves. They absorb nasty airborne pollution and CO2. And perhaps most amazing is the positive impact they have on our personal well-being. It is proven that people who live in a tree-lined neighbourhood have better levels of well-being than those who don’t."   https://www.treesforstreets.org/our-vision/

With the funds raised we plan to approach Lambeth Council to sponsor street trees. The current cost of one tree is £480 https://www.lambeth.gov.uk/planning-and-building-control/trees/trees-public-property/tree-sponsorship#:~:text=Lambeth%20Council%20is%20able%20to,a%20period%20of%20three%20years

we’re hoping to raise £1920 which would be enough to plant and maintain four new trees.

We think there is plenty of room for more trees on our street, however if for some reason this is not possible, or there is extra money leftover, we will put funds raised towards sponsoring trees nearby or towards other planting on our street.
