Aim

Geeks Room supports young people out of school or struggling emotionally through alternative education, technology, creativity and mentoring

Geeks Room is a community-led alternative education and support provision with nearly a decade of experience delivering services in Leeds. Building on this established track record, we now support young people across South Yorkshire and neighbouring areas who are out of school, at risk of exclusion, or unable to engage in mainstream education due to emotional, social, or additional needs.

Over the past decade, we have worked with young people experiencing prolonged absence, anxiety, disengagement, and unmet support needs. Our experience has shown that many young people do not require punitive responses, but consistent, structured environments where relationships, routine, and trust can be rebuilt. Geeks Room exists to provide early, preventative intervention that supports long-term progress.

Our provision operates five days per week, Tuesday to Saturday, delivering three structured sessions per day with capacity for up to 30 young people per session. This allows us to support up to 90 engagement places per day, with young people typically attending one to three sessions per week depending on need. This model enables us to support approximately 120–150 unique young people per term, with capacity to engage 350–400 young people annually.

Geeks Room provides a calm, consistent environment that combines alternative education, mentoring, and creative technology. Young people engage in practical, skills-based learning while also developing emotional regulation, confidence, communication, and positive relationships. Support is individualised, safeguarding-led, and delivered by trained staff within clear quality assurance frameworks.

We work in partnership with families, schools, and local authorities to ensure appropriate referrals, accountability, and continuity of support. Our model prioritises measurable progress and positive transitions rather than short-term attendance alone.

Funding raised through this campaign will be used to:

  • Increase access to supported places for young people unable to secure suitable provision
  • Equip learning spaces with appropriate technology and learning resources
  • Deliver structured programmes supported by trained staff and robust safeguarding systems

Expected Outcomes and Impact

With this funding, Geeks Room expects to:

  • Support 120–150 young people per term, engaging 350–400 young people annually
  • Achieve improved engagement or attendance for 70–80% of participants
  • Support measurable improvements in confidence, emotional regulation, and routine for 65–75% of young people
  • Enable 50–60% of young people to progress into sustained education, training, or continued provision
  • Reduce pressure on families, schools, and local services through early, preventative intervention

Impact will be monitored through attendance data, engagement tracking, individual progress reviews, and structured feedback from young people, families, and referring professionals.

This funding will directly increase capacity, improve access, and support better long-term outcomes for young people who are currently underserved by mainstream education systems.
