Aim

Help fund new changing facilities that support the people, teams and moments that make Golden Hill what it is.

Who are we?

Golden Hill Sports is a community sports organisation based at Golden Hill Sports Ground on Wimbledon Road in Bristol.

The site is home to cricket, football and social activity throughout the year. It brings together players, families, volunteers, coaches, officials, spectators and local supporters – all helping to make Golden Hill a busy and welcoming place for sport and community life.

Golden Hill Cricket Club has a long history in the area and supports cricket across junior, senior, women’s and girls’ sections. Golden Hill Sonics Football Club provides opportunities for young people to play and enjoy football. Alongside sport, the pavilion and social club play an important role in bringing people together through events and community activity.

Golden Hill is built and sustained by its community. Volunteers, parents, players, sponsors and local people all help make the club what it is.

Why are we crowdfunding?

We are crowdfunding because the existing facilities no longer reflect how Golden Hill is used today.

Together, Golden Hill Cricket Club and Golden Hill Sonics support more than 750 players and members across 48 teams, as well as more than 30,000 visitors each year. Female members account for more than 40% of the club, making the women’s and girls’ section one of the fastest-growing parts of the club. The current changing provision no longer matches the scale and variety of activity taking place across the site.

We have planning permission to replace the existing scoring shed with new changing facilities at Golden Hill Sports Ground. The next step is to raise the funds needed to make the project happen.

The new facilities will help support:

  • players and officials on matchdays
  • teams across cricket and football
  • junior and adult teams
  • women’s and girls’ participation
  • coaches and volunteers helping to run training, fixtures and events
  • families, spectators and visitors using the club

Improved provision for women and girls is an especially important outcome. Appropriate changing facilities are a key part of creating a practical, welcoming and inclusive environment where women and girls can participate, progress and feel fully part of club life. It also forms an important part of the wider funding case for the project.

Support What Happens Here

This campaign is about supporting everything that takes place at Golden Hill each week – sport, volunteering, families, events and community life.

"Golden Hill has evolved into one of the largest and most active community sports clubs in the South West. These facilities are about making sure the infrastructure keeps pace with the people who use and enjoy the ground every week."

How we’ll spend the money raised

The overall project cost is expected to be around £200,000.

We are aiming to raise £50,000 through Crowdfunder as part of the wider funding package for the project. The remaining funding will come from a combination of grants, sponsorship and other fundraising activity. Every donation helps demonstrate community support for the project and strengthens our wider fundraising efforts.

Money raised through this campaign will help fund:

  • construction of the new changing facilities
  • drainage and utility connections
  • fixtures, fittings and internal provision
  • professional and project costs
  • supporting works needed to complete the development

This campaign is being run on a Keep What You Raise basis. This means funds raised will go towards the new changing facilities project even if the full Crowdfunder target is not reached.

If the project is delayed, changed or cannot proceed as currently planned, Golden Hill Sports will update supporters clearly. Funds raised will be used for the new changing facilities project or, if necessary, for closely related improvements to sports facilities and community use at Golden Hill.

Every contribution helps move the project closer to delivery.

Community impact

Golden Hill is more than a sports ground. It is a place where people play, volunteer, coach, learn, compete, socialise and come together.

Every week the site supports junior sport, women's and girls' participation, adult teams, families, volunteers and community activity. The new facilities will help ensure the infrastructure behind that activity reflects the reality of how Golden Hill is used today, while strengthening its role as a community sports space for the future.

The project will help:

  • reduce pressure on existing space during busy periods
  • improve the experience for players, officials, coaches and volunteers
  • better support multiple teams and activities using the site
  • make the environment more practical and welcoming for women and girls
  • support junior participation and family involvement
  • strengthen Golden Hill as a place for sport, volunteering and community life

The benefits will be felt by current members, future players, parents, volunteers, spectators, alumni, local residents and community supporters.

By supporting this campaign, you are helping improve the facilities that support sport, community and club life at Golden Hill.
