On the 21st April 2023 we'd raised £5,528 with 84 supporters in 32 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
Any extra funds raised will enhance the existing plans for the 37th Glasgow Jazz Festival in June 2023 by providing additional opportunities for Scottish jazz musicians. These additions to the existing programme will mean more opportunities for up and coming grassroots artists to perform alongside the UK and International acts on the line-up, while also providing audiences with a broader range of music to enjoy during this year's Festival.
The 37th annual Glasgow Jazz Festival runs from Wednesday 14th - Sunday 18th June 2023 with multiple music events taking place each day across city centre venues. Last year's festival showcased 24 events with 5 sold-out shows and over 1,500 attendees enjoying performances from some of the biggest names in jazz, blues, soul, funk, R&B and world music. As the city's longest running cultural event, we have been integral to Glasgow's place on the world stage and have contributed to the city's status as a UNESCO City of Music.
Our Late Night Jam Sessions run from 11pm-3am over the 5 nights of our festival. They are free to attend and have seen some legendary performances throughout our history with acts across the programme often participating after their main shows.
In recent years they have attracted young and diverse audiences which often reach capacity. Featuring a House Band each night, they provide work for local musicians and create a space where they can improvise and collaborate with other artists.
Since our previous venue has closed down, we are seeking funding to move to a new venue, with our project part of the 2023 Creative Scotland Crowdmatch competition. Creative Scotland will match individual pledges, so if you donate £20 to our cause, your donation will be matched with a £20 pledge from Creative Scotland, effectively doubling your donation!
Your donations will help to pay the musicians at Musicians Union rates, cover the venue costs and also provide vital income for a range of people including sound engineers and crew, many of whom are freelancers. The last few years have been difficult for so many musicians and freelancers who rely on live events to provide their income stream.
Donations will also allow the Late Night Jam Sessions to remain Free Entry to all attendees and participants. This provides complimentary access to high quality performances and creative experiences to everyone, as well as contributing to the economic recovery of hospitality venues by bringing customers back in to the city centre.
The Late Night Jam Sessions provide space for artists to develop new collaborations and to push the boundaries of their practice further. By providing these sessions, we will continue to support the emerging talent of Scotland to excel and to stretch their creative practice by providing them with a platform to collaborate and experiment.
There will be a range of rewards available on our Crowdfunder page including limited ticket deals so please check back regularly and follow us on social media for updates. Gift Aid can also be claimed on donations so please complete the declaration if you are eligible.
Thank you for supporting Glasgow Jazz Festival - we look forward to seeing you this June!
