Aim

We’re raising £15k for a new GRP training gig that gives people of all ages and abilities the opportunity to row.

About us

Charlestown Rowing Club has been part of our harbour community since 1989. We’re a volunteer-run club welcoming rowers from the very young to the very old, from juniors and beginners to social rowers and competitive crews.

Our club commitment

  • Rowing that’s open to all.
  • A club where everyone belongs.
  • A harbour community strengthened by time on the water.

Our rowing home

Launching a gig in Charlestown is a loved local spectacle. Crowds of locals visitors gather on the harbour walls to watch crews work together down our famously steep slip. In peak season, our boats are on the water seven days a week, bringing life and energy to the harbour.

Take a live look at our harbour, and see what we get up to in our community.

Why we’re fundraising

Our GRP training gigs have served us incredibly well for many years. They’ve carried generations of rowers and helped shape the club we are today.

They’re now very tired and heavy, making it harder for juniors, beginners and social rowers to take part as often as they’d like.

Sport England is right behind us, recognising the impact rowing has in Charlestown. They’ve awarded a generous grant towards a new training gig. Now we are working hard to match-fund it and raise additional funds to ensure we have the essential kit and safety equipment to get us on the water.

A lightweight gig will mean more people rowing more often, with confidence, ease and enjoyment.

What the new gig will do

  • Rebuild our junior rowing programme
  • Strengthen links with local schools and youth groups
  • Boost social rowing and beginner opportunities
  • Reduce cancelled sessions
  • Keep rowing open and accessible to all
  • A true community boat for a true community club.

Where your donation goes

Every pound directly supports:

  • The new lightweight GRP gig
  • Fittings and essential safety equipment
  • A long term investment that will open rowing to hundreds of people.
