The project aims to raise funds to deliver a summer planting scheme in the village of Freuchie.
THE PROPOSAL IN A NUTSHELL!
Following the dissolution of Freuchie Community Council, Freuchie in Flower has been set up as an independent charity to carry on the tradition of brightening up the village with a winter and summer planting scheme. The new group has inherited 134 planters and hanging baskets of various shapes and sizes but has no funding to purchase plants. We are seeking donations from local residents who would be willing to support the volunteers who work tirelessly throughout the year to make Freuchie a great place to live.
WHY DO WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT?
It costs £2000 a year to provide both a winter and summer planting scheme for the village. Freuchie in Flower volunteers, aided by a generous donation from a local couple, paid for the winter 2021 planting scheme of citrus pansies and polyanthus but we need your support to raise funds for our more ambitious summer planting scheme. We hope to provide a calming pastel scheme of pink and white geranium, silver dichondra, lavender petunia and pastel shades of lobelia. The coronavirus pandemic has impacted on daily life and has brought anxiety to many, particularly our elderly residents. We hope the planting scheme will raise spirits and bring joy but without your support it may not happen. We need to raise £1000 to cover the cost.
WHO ARE FREUCHIE IN FLOWER?
Freuchie in Flower comprises 11 Freuchie residents who volunteer throughout the year to brighten up your village. You may have seen the volunteers in their hi-viz vests tending to the flowers in the village? As well as the main streets in the village Freuchie in Flower plants and cares for the flowers at the War Memorial, Lumsden Hall, Bowling and Cricket Clubs and other key village locations.
WHAT WILL YOUR DONATIONS BE SPENT ON?
Your donations will be spent on purchasing compost and plugs from specialist growers. These are planted up and nurtured 7 days a week by a rota of volunteers in a polytunnel in the grounds of the Bowling Club. In total the volunteers look after some 2000+ plants. Once the plants have matured sufficiently they are planted out across the village. The volunteering commitment then reduces to a half day a week weeding, watering and tending to the planters and hanging baskets.
