Put Disabled Children in the Spotlight Through Dance
Since 2013, Flamingo Chicks has given 45,000 disabled and ill children the opportunity to explore movement through dance, creating a more inclusive world where all abilities are celebrated.
With your help, we can take our impact to the next level, bringing three unique projects to life that will empower disabled children, redefine perceptions, and champion dance as a sport.
2025 PROJECTS
1. Performing at Disneyland Paris – International Day of Sport for Development and Peace
In April 2025, we have the chance to take 17 children; disabled young people, their siblings and a parent/carer, to perform on Disneyland Paris’ iconic Videopolis stage. This performance, taking place on the United Nations’ 'International Day of Sport for Development and Peace' will:
• Highlight the physical and wellbeing benefits of dance as a sport for disabled children.
• Showcase their capabilities on a world-famous platform, advocating for greater inclusion in sport.
• Introduce Disney staff to inclusive techniques like Makaton, paving the way for other disabled visitors.
• Share the Disney magic with hospital and hospice-bound children across the UK through our UK based regular sessions.
We’re just £11,090 away from making this dream come true!
2. Performance Deconstructed – An Inclusive London Stage Show
We have an amazing opportunity to take the Flamingo Chicks' mobile sensory stage to the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith which has established a national and international reputation for its work with children and young people.
Our innovative, sensory stage show, co-created by disabled young people combines tactile staging, textured fabrics, evocative smells, and bold visuals. The show is a unique combination of dance, drama and advocacy, getting everyone moving and inspired!
Help us spark a culture shift toward valuing accessible performances in Summer 2025.
We need to raise £1,500 to make this vision a reality.
3. New Virtual Class, filmed the Eden Project - inspiring everyone to get active and protect our planet!
Our virtual classes distill all the magic of Flamingo Chicks into online workshops, available 24/7 for free on YouTube, offering a world of accessible wonder.
Hugely popular and highly valued, our most recent class saw 9,500 disabled children take part in our unique active learning format.
Beautifully animated and thoughtfully adapted for a range of physical abilities, these classes are supported by communication aids like Makaton, ensuring every child can get moving.
For 2025, our theme is Nature and Conservation, and we have an extraordinary opportunity to film the class at the Eden Project, set amidst its iconic biomes! This unique setting will inspire children and help bring the theme to life.
The class will reach thousands of children across the UK, including those in special schools, hospitals, hospices, as well as home and community settings. It will also feature Eco Makaton, a project by our Youth Council (Agents of Change), empowering disabled children to take an active role in protecting our planet.
We need £1,970 to cover filming, animation, editing, and presenter costs to create this new episode. With your support, we can create a truly magical experience that connects children with nature and inspires them to move, learn, and make a difference!
Why This Matters
Disabled children face significant barriers to being active, with 41% remaining inactive and obesity rates 38% higher than their peers. They also face a loneliness epidemic: 45% regularly feel lonely, with 15% feeling lonely every day.
Flamingo Chicks uses dance as a powerful tool to change this, improving physical wellbeing, confidence, and social connection. Our results speak volumes:
• 89% of children see improved physical wellbeing.
• 90% gain confidence and resilience.
• 97% move more than usual, with 75% achieving independent movements.
Join us in showcasing the transformative power of dance as a sport and ensuring no child is left out.
About us
Flamingo Chicks is a multi-award winning charity and inclusive community giving disabled and ill children the opportunity to explore movement through dance. From a small community group founded in 2013, we have become a national force championing inclusion for disabled children. 45,000 children have danced with us since we began.
We are passionate about creating 'wow' opportunities that not only give disabled children and their families unique experiences but also showcase what they can do, and help change perceptions.
