Aim
Flagship Crewkerne is a Community Arts & Heritage Festival transforming Crewkerne’s high street and key heritage sites.
Crewkerne has always been a town shaped by making. From its medieval cloth trade to its renowned sailcloth making, webbing, engineering works, and thriving Georgian and Victorian high street, the town’s identity is woven from centuries of skilled hands and inventive minds. Many of its finest historic buildings still stand proudly today but like many market towns, Crewkerne has felt the impact of economic change, reduced local investment, and the continued impact of the pandemic.
This project aims to spark a renewed sense of pride, connection, and possibility by inviting the whole community to rediscover, reinterpret, and celebrate Crewkerne’s heritage through creativity.
Flagship Crewkerne will be a month‑long outdoor exhibition of artist and community‑made flags displayed along the high street and across key heritage sites. Each flag will tell a story, honouring the industries that once built the town, celebrating the businesses and makers who shape it today, and imagining the skills and opportunities that could define Crewkerne’s future.
The project will transform the town centre into a vibrant gallery of colour, showcasing heritage and craft, encouraging residents and visitors to explore Crewkerne’s past while engaging with its present.
