The Falcon Centre Action Group is made up of interested residents and users of the centre who are proactively planning for bigger and better things for this underused building and site.
We are concerned with the condition and underuse of the Falcon Centre currently which could make it difficult for the county council to continue to invest in this great community building.
We want to turn the Falcon Centre into a community hub for Wylam. A community hub is "multi-purpose building at the centre of a community, providing safe spaces for people of all ages, so everyone, toddler, teenager to the retired can participate in education, economic and cultural life."
We want to carry out a feasibility study on the Falcon Centre to examine the potential to both secure the future of the library and museum and additionally focus on tourism & heritage, healthcare & wellbeing, activities for young people, provision for small businesses and ancillary catering. We want to introduce some of these activities to the centre whilst introducing environmentally friendly technologies and activities to the centre. The feasibility study will help us to plan for a sustainable future for the centre as a locally managed community hub.
This activity takes time and money and is likely to be the start of a long journey towards a thriving community hub. We will approach potential funders for the cost of the feasibility study, refurbishment planning and capital spending on the centre. However this in itself costs money to join the right groups, run a website and pay for campaign costs.
The money raised here will be vital in helping us to develop these ambitious plans and put them into action.
