Empowered Conversations support families affected by dementia to stay well, stay connected and stay together for longer.
Empowered Conversations has been delivering communication courses and one to one support for families affected by dementia for over 10 years in Salford and Greater Manchester. Greater Manchester has an estimated 30,000 people living with dementia, a large proportion are supported by spouses, children and grandchildren, almost half of caregivers will struggle with depression and anxiety.
Our work focuses on helping families affected by dementia to stay well, stay connected and stay together for longer by delaying or preventing the move into full time care.
“Found this really useful. Has helped me to understand my mum better, have more effective (and less stressful) interactions with my mum, and has decreased my own stress levels.” Jim, family carer.
The project started in Six Degrees before moving to Age UK Salford and Trafford in 2020. The team are really grateful for the support they have received from both organisations. The time is right to take the next step and set Empowered Conversations up as it's own social enterprise. This move will enable the project to reach even more families affected by dementia.
We have a committed team of people, some have been with the project since it started, others joined a bit later, but all have lived experience and are passionate about supporting families affected by dementia. The new social enterprise has an advisory group of family caregivers, Empowered Connectors, represented by a board member.
Empowered Conversations CIC has just incorporated and we plan to move over to the new social enterprise in the next couple of months, but we need your help to get some of the basics, an updated website, leaflets and a few laptops.
