Aim

Help weave the dyslexia tartan and support a dyslexia-friendly Scotland. Join a global movement for dyslexia awareness.

Our vision is for a dyslexia-friendly Scotland where every child and young person with dyslexia grows up having their rights met and is enabled to achieve their full, amazing potential. And where workers with dyslexia are accepted, respected, supported and enabled to do their jobs in the way they work best.

But we aren’t there yet.

Although half a million people in Scotland are dyslexic, too many are still lost in the margins of society.

We’re inviting the whole world to be part of Clan Dyslexia – to be part of our wider community, making dyslexia more visible, respected and included, the whole world over.

We’ve partnered with Lochcarron of Scotland, world-renowned tartan weavers, to design the official Dyslexia-Friendly Scotland tartan.

About the tartan

The tartan is now listed on the Scottish Register of Tartans, with the design rights owned by Dyslexia Scotland.

The colours are Dyslexia Scotland’s brand palette, which symbolise children, young people and adults with dyslexia; woven in with the changemakers; all working in harmony for a dyslexia-friendly Scotland (and world).

The tartan represents dyslexic pride, identity and belonging for the whole global dyslexia community.

But although we have the design ready, we have to pay a large sum to put the weave into production.

So we need support.

Why we need your support

The tartan design is complete - but we need funding to commission the first fabric weave.

Producing tartan requires a significant upfront cost before weaving can begin. That’s why we’re launching this crowdfunding campaign and inviting supporters around the world to help bring the dyslexia tartan to life.

Your support will help us:

  • Commission the first production weave
  • Launch official tartan products and accessories
  • Raise ongoing funds for dyslexia advocacy and support

You can be an early adopter

From 2027, we plan to sell dyslexia tartan goods to generate income that supports our work.

Tartan is loved all over the world, and we hope this tartan will become a global symbol of dyslexia awareness, pride and inclusion.

By supporting this campaign, you’ll help us:

  • Raise awareness of dyslexia and neurodiversity.
  • Support children, young people and adults with dyslexia.
  • Build a stronger, more inclusive society.

For now, you can choose from exclusive printed rewards when you pledge your support. You'll be one of the first people in the world to own an item with the dyslexia tartan printed on.

The funds raised will go directly toward commissioning the tartan weave. Once the fabric is produced, the goods made from it will continue generating funds to support our mission: ensuring people with dyslexia have their rights met and the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Who should pledge?

Anyone can pledge support for the dyslexia tartan – you are all part of our inclusive community. We also know it will be of particular interest to:

  • People with dyslexia and other neurodivergences.
  • People who support others with dyslexia in life, education or work.
  • Tartan lovers.
  • Scotland and Scottish culture, history and heritage lovers.
  • Sustainable fashion fans.
