Aim
Help us build all-weather practice nets at Draycott & Hanbury CC so every junior, lady and senior can train all year, rain or shine.
Who are we?
We are a small, friendly village cricket club serving the local villages of Draycott-in-the-Clay and Hanbury as well as other surrounding areas. We play at The Actionclad Ground on Knightsfield Road, Hanbury and have three senior sides - two in the Derbyshire County Cricket League and one in the Lichfield Sunday League. We also have a Ladies' softball team which has grown rapidly in the last three years and now has a vision to move to hardball cricket. We have several junior sides ranging from under 11s to under 17s hardball and a Girls' under 13s softball team. We also run the annual ECB Dynamos and AllStars programs for 5 - 11 year olds. We are ECB affiliated, run by volunteers and committed to the long-term future of village cricket in this area.
Why are we crowdfunding?
Presently, we only have grass training pitches which limits our ability to offer coaching in the winter and when the Great British summer lets us down. We lose at least half a dozen training session each season and have to seek alternative training venues in the winter at extra cost.
We aim to construct a two-lane, all-weather practice facility, which will consist of two distinct areas where coaches can teach both batting and bowling skills. These fully enclosed, artificial grass facilities will allows us to provide consistent high-quality training for all genders and ages as well as taking some of the load off the grounds staff. It will allow us run more structured and tailored training for individuals and groups both inside and outside of normal training sessions and therefore accelerate the improvements for all players, young and old. Also, as they are enclosed, it will allow matches to take place at the same time as training which could ease fixture congestion that can be a problem for single ground village clubs like ours. This new facility will ensure we can provide training options no matter what the weather or the time of the year. By doing this, all our players can remain fit, active and engaged all year round.
How we’ll spend the money raised
Total project cost is around £42,000 including VAT. Here's exactly where it goes:
Alongside this Crowdfunder, we have applied for a number of grants including from the ECB County Grants Fund, The Cricket Charity, The Duchy of Lancaster and the East Staffordshire Borough Council.
We hope to obtain match funding from Sport England, so every £1 pledged to this Crowdfunder will be worth double. On top of that we would also be able to claim Gift Aid from and donations as we as a CASC registered club. Every penny pledged will go directly to the project, with no additional costs.
Community impact
Our club is at the heart of the village and provides sporting opportunities for adults and children from miles around.
Junior players are the future of our club and the village cricket it provides, so new state of the art facilities will encourage them to join and stay committed to our club. We provide ladies and girls cricket and we are one of only a few clubs in our area to do so. This makes it vital that we continue to offer cricket to these demographics.
Once built, the artificial nets can be offered to the wider community, bringing a chance to train and learn to everyone including local schools and community groups. We want the Actionclad ground to continue to appeal to the local village communities and beyond.
