If we raise more than the £8000 we intend to purchase headsets to help communication between swimmers and coaches.
Who we are
Founded in 1863, Devonport Royal Swimming Association (DRSA) is one of the oldest swimming club in the country. We are unusual in that we have development swimmers through to regional swimmers, an active masters section (oldies) and water polo teams. We also have a dedicated coaching team whose aim is provide a fun and engaging environment for all our swimmers and water polo players to fulfil their potential in the water. We currently have approximately 150 active members. We are a SwimMark accredited club to ensure we create the best possible swimming experience for all. We are also a learning destination for the Children's University.
Why we are raising funds
The COVID19 pandemic has impacted the Club in so many ways. Our members have been unable to swim or play water polo during lockdown. This has significantly impacted the income we rely upon from session fees. When we were able to return to the pool briefly, we ensured that COVID19 safety guidance from Swim England and the Government were followed. This incurred extra costs. In addition, the closure of the Plymouth Life Centre for repairs means increased costs for over a year while we use other pools and creates difficulties for our members travelling to other venues. We are also unable to host competitions which generate revenue.
We therefore need to raise funds to ensure that the Club is able to keep going.
What the funding will be used for
The funds we raise together will help keep the Club running and secure its future so that we can continue to develop our swimmers and water polo players and support their physical and mental health.
