We need your support to create a community kitchen at Leadworks as a shared space for learning and developing cooking skills and projects.

by Leadworks Projects CIC in Plymouth, United Kingdom

We're still collecting donations

On the 21st September 2023 we'd raised £20,145 with 133 supporters in 69 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.

 New stretch target

The extra funding will be put towards being able to facilitate more learning and sharing session, by being able to fund trained individuals and/or orgnisations to offer more tailored sessions over a longer period.  Also will allow to support a supply of food for learning and sharing sessions by subscribing to reuse food projects over the next 12 months.  This in turn will also support and help sustain the current offering of our in house community fridge and demand for surplus food continues to rise in the area.

The team here at Leadworks took on the project of creating the Leadworks nearly 4 years ago.  The journey has been immense as repurposing a disused warehouse is no easy feat! But together with your support we've overcome leaky roofs, heating and sewage problems, as well as trying to turn it into an inviting, welcoming and accessible space for all. We are continually developing the space with the support of our volunteers and we are determined to take this next step to develop Leadworks even further to meet our community's needs.

The development of a community kitchen within the space is the next step in the Leadworks journey, so we can provide the well needed and requested space for free and low cost cookery classes, not only as an extension of the services that Leadworks currently offers, but also to compliment the Community fridge that operates within the space.

Leadworks currently fosters and grows many partnerships within the community and offers a wide range of support for people and organisations, including those seeking refuge and asylum, LGBTQ+ community, those with disabilities and mental health difficulties; as well as those with addictions, facing food poverty and those affected by the cost of living crisis.

The ethos and aims of Leadworks project will only work if everyone is able to come and be part of what we are building here, so this is why we are asking for your support, creating a community kitchen for all, a place that is available to all to share and learn new skills and give greater access to food during these difficult times.

Leadworks is relied upon to continue to offer and grow its services  and friendly space while trying to connect our community together.  We currently have an onsite community fridge, that is free to access for anyone, no questions asked, but we are now seeing a rise in the need to support, teach and develop peoples food handling and cooking skills.  We as a city center venue have constant request for kitchen space so people can share, teach and learn skills around food and develop their own community enterprises.

We have been able to raise a start up pot of money for the project, as well as calling out to local businesses for support and sponsorship, which has all assisted with this journey, but unfortunately the building has sent us some challenges that we have not been able to overcome ourselves and we are calling out to our community for support to fully produce the fully fitted, commercial kitchen the community it needs to be and ask you to generously support us to raise £20,000 to be able to complete the project.

It is essential for our survival as a community hub to expand and organically grow with the needs and wants of our community.  Our community and neighborhoods are our most essential resource in creating good social capital and change within our area.  As we are all too aware , energy prices, food prices  and general cost of living cost have sky rocketed, this not only effects us as an organisation but also our community.

All of us here at Leadworks would very much like to continue and grow our space and with your help we can do this.
