CLIMB at Johns Lee Wood - Rotating Climbing Wall

Aim

Help us raise £5,100 to unlock Sport England funding and install a unique rotating climbing wall activity for Scouts, Guides & Schools

Who are we?

We are the volunteer warden team at Johns Lee Wood Scout Campsite, a well-established outdoor activity centre serving Scouts, Guides, schools, DofE and Roleplay groups from across Leicestershire, the UK and beyond. Our volunteer team work year-round to give young people safe, high-quality, affordable outdoor adventure.

From archery to shooting, pioneering to camping skills, everything we do is delivered by volunteers who care deeply about getting young people outdoors, learning new skills, building confidence and having fun.

Why are we crowdfunding?

We are crowdfunding to install a Rotating Climbing Wall - a fully weather-proof, instructor-free activity that will dramatically expand what we can offer to young people. No other campsite in Leicestershire will have anything like this.

We approached Sport England for support and they have agreed to fund £5,100, but only if we can raise £5,100 ourselves. If we do not reach our share, we will not receive their contribution, so every donation genuinely counts.

We’ve already secured additional support:

EH Smith will provide the building materials to construct the covered shelter.

The RDC Foundation is funding the safety mats.

Now we need the final £5,100 to unlock Sport England’s match funding and make this activity a reality.

Project impact

This project will benefit hundreds of young people each year by:

• Providing a brand-new activity that works in all weather, meaning fewer cancelled sessions.
• Giving young people a challenging, confidence-building activity that improves fitness, resilience and problem-solving.
• Reduces reliance on qualified climbing instructors, allowing us to offer more sessions more often.
• Provides a unique attraction for Scouts, Guides, schools and other youth groups supporting their development programmes and badge requirements.
• The rotating climbing wall will also help the campsite remain sustainable, attract new groups, and continue supporting outdoor education in Leicestershire.
